ORLANDO , Fl. – July 1, 2005 – The Beautiful Wind, a thirteen minute short film that was produced, written and directed by Sohrab Mirmontazeri, and co-produced by brother Alireza Mirmontazeri and Tarek McCarthy. Since the completion of The Beautiful Wind, the film has received international recognition and holds three prestigious titles.
The film was selected and won the Audience Choice Award for Best Short Film at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival in Las Vegas(June, 2005); it has won the Orlando dMac's Film Slam competition; and has just been accepted to the Los Angeles division of the New York Film Festival which takes place on September 24, 2005 at Fairfax Laemmle. Submissions to other prestigious festivals, including Sundance, have already begun.
The Beautiful Wind is a film that was captured over eight consecutive shooting days, and vigorously edited in six. Production for the digitally-shot movie consisted of twelve to fifteen hour days, with a $200 budget.
MirMont Media, the rights-held company, began production in some of Florida 's most beautiful locations, such as Saint Augustine and Orlando 's local forests.
The Beautiful Wind is set around the loss of a woman. The film takes the audience on a journey of self-discovery, an awareness of the vibrancy of life, and the remarkable realization that all you have strived to find may simply be right in front of you.
The film was inspired by a true story – writing began after Sohrab Mirmontazeri left a five hour discussion with McCarthy about his recent struggles with Von Hippel-Lindau Syndrome, a rare disorder which causes tumors to grow in the body, and a disease that no remedy can cure. “I took all the emotions I felt after our conversation and wrote poetry that could relate to anyone who wants to find beauty again.”
Alireza Mirmontazeri and Tarek McCarthy brought to the film an undying love that helped take the directors vision from paper to screen. McCarthy's brilliant performance is due in part to his ability of adapting emotions from his previous struggles.
The Beautiful Wind is filled with incredible visuals captured by cinematographer Sohrab Mirmontazeri. The films narration, done by McCarthy, accompanies Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, leading to the climax of heart pumping violin melodies. Film instructors like Tom Dennis at Full Sail University refer to this film as a “visual poem.” “They just added so much texture that it was like watching a Van Gough painting come to life.” Film Program Director Dave Franko further added, “It is a beautifully shot film. I enjoyed this piece and I hope many people get a chance to see this inspiring film.”
